Government Seized Asset Appraisals for Personal Property

Government seized asset appraisals develop a supported value opinion for tangible personal property held, managed or evaluated by a public agency. The assignment is defined around the agency's intended use, intended users, effective date, value definition, access conditions and reporting requirements.

Prestige Estate Services appraises tangible personal property. We do not provide real estate appraisals.

Assignments may involve seized or forfeited property, surplus assets, agency collections, equipment, furnishings, vehicles, fine art, jewelry, collectibles and other movable property. The scope is confirmed before inspection or research begins.

Professional Appraisal Staff

Meet Our Personal Property Appraisers

All Prestige Estate Services appraisers are in-house W-2 employees. We do not use contract appraisers as members of our appraisal staff. Each appraiser works directly for Prestige Estate Services and is IRS-qualified and USPAP-compliant.

Assignments are matched to the property categories, location, intended use and scope. All reports are reviewed by our board of ISA-certified appraisers who hold the Certified Appraiser of Personal Property (CAPP) designation, the ISA's highest level of accreditation.

Assignment Purpose and Scope

When May a Government Personal Property Appraisal Be Needed?

An appraisal may be needed when an agency requires independent, documented market analysis for a defined administrative, financial, legal, stewardship or disposition purpose. The agency or its counsel identifies the governing authority and intended use; the appraiser develops the scope and report to address that assignment.

Seized or Forfeited Assets

A valuation may support asset evaluation, case administration, financial records, settlement discussions or disposition planning when tangible personal property is under seizure or forfeiture procedures.

Surplus and Exchange/Sale Property

Agencies may require current market evidence for furniture, equipment, vehicles and other excess or surplus personal property before transfer, exchange, sale or another authorized disposition pathway.

Agency Collections and Specialty Assets

Fine art, historical objects, decorative arts, archives and specialty collections may require category-specific research for stewardship, insurance, transfer, reporting or other approved agency needs.

The U.S. Marshals Service states that it identifies and evaluates assets and manages or disposes of much of the property seized for the Department of Justice Asset Forfeiture Program. The precise role of an outside appraiser depends on the requesting agency and assignment. Review the U.S. Marshals Service asset forfeiture overview.
